Eid Al-Adha in Jordan
عيد الأضحى في الأردن
Eid Al-Adha marks the end of the annual pilgrimage to Makkah and is one of the Muslim world’s most important festivals. It is sometimes translated into English as “The Feast of Sacrifice” and is a day of remembrance for all the kindnesses and the hardships in the world.

يُحدد عيد الأضحى نهاية مراسم الحج إلى مكة ويُعد كذلك أحد الإحتفالات المهمة لعالم المسلمين. تترجم أحياناً إلى اللغة الإنجليزية “إحتفال الأضحية” ويُعد ذكرى لكل عطف ومعاناة في العالم.
Families and communities throughout Jordan gather early in the morning for communal prayers, And people wear their finest clothes. Eid Al-Adha is a time for unity amongst Muslim communities in Jordan and throughout the wider world. It is a time to celebrate shared values, virtues and faith. It is a day of family, rather than of public celebration, and often a chance to see distance relatives. Large meals of traditional food are prepared and then shared by one’s nearest and dearest. Jordanian families often give one third of the meat from the meal to the poor.
تجتمع العائلات والمجتمعات في جميع أرجاء الأردن في الصباح الباكر لصلوات الجماعة ويلبس الناس أرقى الملابس. يُعد عيد الأضحى وقت الوحدة فيما بين المجتمعات المسلمة في الأردن وفي جميع أنحاء العالم الواسع. أنه وقت الإحتفال بالقيم المشتركة والفضائل والإيمان. إنه يوم العائلة وليس إحتفال عام. وأحياناً يُعد فرصة لرؤية الأقارب البعدين.
Eid Al-Adha, as well as being a feast of thanksgiving, is a time of forgiveness. During the day, people are encouraged to offer forgiveness to those who have done them wrong. This symbolises the idea of a “new-start” that is at the center of Eid Al-Adha.
يُعد عيد الأضحى فضلاً عن كونه عيد الشكر، وقت المغفرة. حيث يسامح الناس خلال النهار من أخطأ في حقهم. وترمز فكرة “البداية الجديدة” قلب عيد الأضحى.

The Dragon Boat Festival
مهرجان قوارب التنين
This festival is in memory of Qu Yuan, a Chinese government minister who lived more than two thousand years ago. The people all loved Qu Yuan because he was a good man who worked hard to make China a better country. He died by drowning in a river, and the festival takes place every year on the anniversary of his death. It is celebrated in June all over China.
يُعد هذا المهرجان ذكرى تشو يوان، وزير في الحكومة الصينية، عاش قبل أكثر من 2000 عام. أحب جميع الشعب تشو يوان لأنه كان صالحاً وعمل جاهداً لجعل الصين أفضل بلد. توفى غرقاً في النهر، ويقام المهرجان في كل عام لإحياء ذكرى وفاته، كما ويقام في حزيران/يونيو في جميع أرجاء الصين.

Thousands of people come to watch the Dragon Boat races, which are the most exciting part of the festival. The boats are usually brightly painted and can be 35 metres long. The front of each boat is a dragon’s head with an open mouth and the back is a dragon’s tail. Before the race begins, eyes are painted on the dragon’s faces to bring them to life. The largest boats need 80 rowers, and at the front of each boat there is a drummer and a “flag catcher”. The winner of the race is the first boat to catch the flag at the end of the course.

يأتي آلاف الأشخاص لمشاهدة سباقات قوارب التنين والتي هي أكثر أجزاء المهرجان دهشةً. فغالباً ما تُطلى القوارب بألوان زاهية والتي تبلغ طولها 35 متراً. تُعد مقدمة جميع القوارب رأس التنين وبفم مفتوح، بينما تُعد مؤخرة القارب ذيل التنين. وقبل بداية السباق، تُطلى أعين أوجه التنين لتبعث فيهم الحياة. تحتاج القوارب الكبيرة 80 مُجدفاً ويقبع على مقدمة كل قارب قارع طبل ماسك بعلم. ويكون الفائز بالسباق أول قارب يمسك بالعلم المُثبت في نهاية المضمار.

The traditional food for the festival is steamed rice balls, filled with egg, beans, fruits, mushrooms, meat or a mixture of these.

يُعد الطعام الشعبي/التقليدي كرات الأرز المطبوخ بالبخار محشي بالبيض أو الفاصوليا أو الفواكه أو الفطر أو اللحم أو خليط من تلك الأطعمة.
